Deze keer richt ik de spots op de Zimbabwaanse band Mokoomba uit de omgeving van de Victoria Falls. In de jaren tachtig startte de band, bestaande uit voormalige schoolvrienden uit Chnotima Township aan de noordgrens van Zimbabwe. De band maakt een spannende mix van tonga-ritmes, soukous en soca. Vrolijke dansmuziek met teksten over hebzuchtige familieleden of smeken om regen tijdens een droge periode!
This time, I’m shining the spotlight on the Zimbabwean band Mokoomba from the Victoria Falls area. The band started in the 1980s, consisting of former school friends from Chnotima Township on the northern border of Zimbabwe. The band creates an exciting mix of tonga rhythms, soukous and soca. Cheerful dance music with lyrics about greedy family members or begging for rain during a dry spell!
