Sona heeft een Gambiaanse vader en een Engelse moeder. De beroemde kora speler Toumani Dianbaté maakt deel uit van haar familie! Best bijzonder dat zij de kora speelt, meestal zijn dat mannen in de Afrikaanse traditie.In 2011 bracht ze haar debuutalbum uit. Ze schrijft haar songs in de Maningataal. Ze werkte o.a. samen met het Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
